Turkish intellectual property law is present in many legal sources. Apart from Law No. 5846 on intellectual and artistic works, until recently intellectual property law, such as patents, trademarks, industrial designs etc., was governed by a number of decree laws. The entry into force of the new Turkish Commercial Code No. 6102 on 1 July 2012 (hereinafter referred to as "the Code") has consequences on these fields of intellectual property law.
The most significant points, include: the commercial nature of intellectual property law; the relationship between trade and the related intellectual property rights; the protection of trade names; the concept of unfair competition; precautionary measures regarding intellectual property law at customs; the use of Internet domain names; and contribution of intellectual property rights to a company.
