Gide advises Twenga on the complaint filed against Google
On 23 January 2012, the web’s most comprehensive online shopping search engine Twenga filed a complaint against Google before the European Commission, accusing the Internet search giant of abusing its dominant position on the search and search advertising market.
The complaint focuses on:
- improving the Commission’s understanding of the market concerned and explaining the reasons behind Google’s abuses;
- identifying Google’s various discriminatory practices of favouring its own vertical services in its search results to the detriment of its competitors, as well as the anti-competitive practices carried out in connection with Google’s advertising platform Adwords;
- petitioning the Commission to order the necessary remedies (including a request for interim measures) with a view to bringing Google’s infringements to an end as quickly as possible and ensuring the conditions for fair competition.
Gide Paris and Brussels are advising Twenga with a team composed of Yann Utzschneider, partner (Paris), as well as Laurent Godfroid and Ségolène Pelsy (Brussels).
