Max Baird-Smith is a partner in the Mergers & Acquisitions / Corporate practice group. He advises on a wide variety of business transactions and corporate matters, including mergers & acquisitions, private equity investments, infrastructure and transport transactions, and joint ventures. A substantial part of his practice is of a cross-border nature.
He recently advised Bpifrance on various transactions, including the acquisition, alongside Apollo, of Verallia and the disposal of TDF; Crédit Agricole Assurances on multiple transactions, including the acquisition of stakes in Atlandes, TIGF and Indigo; Safran on its space-launcher joint venture (Airbus Safran Launchers) with Airbus Group; DeA Capital on its disposal of a majority stake in Générale de Santé; Stockdale Capital Partners on its acquisition of CEIT; and VEON on the sale of its 51% holding in Orascom Telecom Algérie (Djezzy) to the Algerian National Investment Fund.
Max joined the Paris office of Gide in 2007 and, from 2013, was partner at a leading French boutique. He re-joined Gide in 2017. He is qualified both as an English solicitor and French avocat. Before joining Gide, Max worked for 5 years in the London office of Slaughter and May. He studied at Oxford University (St Hugh's College).
