Max Baird-Smith is a partner in Gide's Mergers & Acquisitions / Corporate practice group. He advises on a wide variety of business transactions and corporate matters, including mergers & acquisitions, private equity investments, infrastructure and transport transactions, and joint ventures. A substantial part of his practice is of a cross-border nature.
He recently advised Bpifrance on various transactions, including the acquisition, alongside Apollo, of Verallia and the disposal of TDF; Crédit Agricole Assurances on multiple transactions, including the acquisition of stakes in Atlandes, TIGF and Indigo; Safran on its space-launcher joint venture (Airbus Safran Launchers) with Airbus Group; DeA Capital on its disposal of a majority stake in Générale de Santé; Stockdale Capital Partners on its acquisition of CEIT; and VEON on the sale of its 51% holding in Orascom Telecom Algérie (Djezzy) to the Algerian National Investment Fund.
Max joined the Paris office of Gide in 2007 and, from 2013, was partner at a leading French boutique. He re-joined Gide in 2017. He is qualified both as an English solicitor and French avocat. Before joining Gide, Max worked for five years in the London office of Slaughter and May. He studied at Oxford University (St Hugh's College).
