Gide Loyrette Nouel is one of the few international law firms to offer considerable expertise in the field of Islamic finance. We understand the key principles behind Shariah compliant financing and we advise many financial institutions on their projects.
Our Banking & Finance team has developed Islamic finance experience over many years, working closely with clients to provide solutions to complex technical issues. Legal and regulatory concerns pose new challenges for the industry but with the support offered by our specialist lawyers, we ensure our clients continue to play an important role in one of the fastest growing areas of international finance.
At the request of former Finance minister Mrs. Christine Lagarde, Gilles Saint Marc chaired the Islamic Finance Committee of Paris Europlace from 2008 to 2010. This Committee is to be credited with the adaptation of the French legal framework to Islamic financing: four regulations issued by the Autorité des marchés financiers and NYSE-Euronext on sukuk and mutual funds, as well as of four tax instructions on sukuk, murabaha, ijara and istisna'a. Gide's expertise in that field focuses on the structuring of financings (real estate assets, telecom financing, project financing), the issuance of sukuk as well as the setting up of private equity funds. Gide also participated in the creation of several Islamic banks and of Shariah compliant banking products (retail and investment banking).
To keep abreast of the latest trends, developments and new products in this ever changing sector, the Firm is a member of ISFIN, the world's leading network of Islamic finance law specialists. We regularly share this knowledge with our clients which helps them identify and develop new opportunities across their product portfolio at an early stage.
