The Economic and European Department, together with its specialists in Brussels, is widely respected for its knowledge and experience in the field of international trade. It assists clients in trade defence proceedings: antidumping, anti-subsidy and safeguards. It represents clients in WTO dispute settlement proceedings in Geneva and advises them on other aspects of WTO law: barriers to trade in goods and services, State aid, the environment, public health and investments.
Gide Loyrette Nouel was one of the first law firms in Europe to develop a WTO law practice in Brussels. It has consolidated this practice through its 18 offices and its contacts in developing countries. In China, the Brussels Office, in liaison with the Beijing and Shanghai Offices, advised the Chinese government in connection with its first WTO dispute: the steel case. This unique experience has allowed the Firm to expand its practice to include numerous other companies. It has now become one of the leading firms representing major European companies in antidumping proceedings brought by China.
The Firm has also been involved in disputes in Russia, Poland, the Czech Republic and Pakistan.
