19 November 2009 - Comprehensive new book on the UK tax implications for distressed companies:
A highly regarded new book providing a detailed focus on the UK tax aspects and implications for distressed companies is soon to be published by Bloomsbury Professional.
The book, Taxation of Corporate Insolvency and Rescue, will analyse the tax treatment of companies in liquidation, administration, different forms of receivership and those making voluntary arrangements and the tax consequences for their creditors, shareholders, landlords and guarantors.
This is the first update of this seminal textbook for nine years and has been rewritten comprehensively to cover case law developments and new legislation, up to and including the Corporation Tax Act 2009 and the Finance Act 2009, and will form an invaluable guide and reference tool for insolvency practitioners and company administrators involved in this highly complex area.
Of particular interest, in light of current business practices and the economic climate, will be the tax implications for companies and its creditors of restructuring debt, implementing hive-downs and the so called ‘pre-pack’ administrations.
The author, Anthony Davis, has over 30 years experience as a tax professional. He is a partner at Gide Loyrette Nouel LLP and heads the London Tax Group. Commenting on the book, Anthony said: “The tax position of distressed companies has undergone considerable change in the last few years and understanding the tax implications of rescuing or restructuring a company is of critical importance to everyone concerned. In the current economic climate, more and more companies are working their way through the complexities of UK tax rules and legislation. This book will be an invaluable resource for anyone wishing to gain an in-depth understanding of the tax aspects of insolvency law.”
A review of the book’s last edition by Corporate Rescue and Insolvency Journal concluded: “Throughout the quality of the indexing and the internal and external cross-referencing is excellent. On more than one occasion…. the book is the only source of comment on issues where no clear answer can be found in either the legislation, case law or the Revenue or Customs manuals. In summary, this is an essential addition to the library of any insolvency practitioner or tax adviser”.
