19 November 2009 - East China University of Politics and Law student wins the GLN China Award 2009:

International law firm Gide Loyrette Nouel (GLN) has announced the winner of its annual China Award at a special ceremony held at the Residence of the French General Consul in Shanghai.

Mr Liang Yijie, a LL.M. student at East China University of Politics and Law, wins the coveted prize: an all expenses paid internship in GLN’s Paris head office. He will have the opportunity to develop his legal skills by working alongside the Firm’s teams of experienced international lawyers.

The award was presented yesterday by Mr Thierry Mathou, the French General Consul in Shanghai, in the presence of Chinese and Western officials, university professors, students and journalists.

More than 100 entries were considered by this year’s jury which was presided over by Mr David Boitout, partner and co-head of GLN’s Shanghai office. Mr Boitout described Mr Liang Yijie as: “a gifted student who performed exceptionally well in each round of the competition and clearly demonstrated the potential to become a great lawyer”.

The second prize, a three-month internship at GLN’s Shanghai office, was presented by Mr Han Qimeng, partner and co-head of GLN’s Shanghai office, to Ms Song Wei from Fudan University. Two other students, Ms Wu Danfeng from Fudan University and Ms Xu Wenjie from East China University of Politics and Law, shared third prize and were presented with an RMB 5000 allowance by Mrs Xu Qing, executive director of Shanghai’s Sino-French Training and Exchange Centre in Notarial and Legal Studies.

Established in 2004, the GLN China Award demonstrates GLN’s commitment to encouraging young Chinese legal talent and to promoting the exchange of knowledge and experience between local university students and qualified international lawyers and legal counsels
